A vocal improvisation weekend honouring the ancestors and meeting them in song. Offering our voices to the earth and hearing her/their song. Exploring the undigested coloniality in U.S./European/World history through our own ancestral lineages: resourcing this brave work through community and the beauty of singing together.
We’ll gather at a spacious private home in Lagunitas starting at 2.30pm on Saturday (arriving a little earlier).
On the Saturday afternoon we’ll have a ritual walk to a fire circle 20 mins walk away, and have a Samhain ritual for our own lives; looking back at the past season, acknowledging our gratitude and grief; looking forward to the season ahead, exploring our intentions and prayers woven into the confidential container of music and song. We’ll be fed around the fire a wholesome vegan stew, and then have an ancestor fire, finishing something like 9.30pm.
On Sunday we gather back at the first home 10.30 - 4pm and bring food for lunch.
This is for folks who have some experience of group improvisational singing and are happy to sing.
Led by Briony Greenhill, a highly experienced vocal improviser, ritual pracitioner and musical artist. Briony apprenticed to Sobonfu Some and is a student of Daniel Foor. She has been on her own ancestor lineage healing journey for 15 years; finding improvised singing a powerful way to connect with the imaginal - and through the imaginal, with ancestors, earth and the unseen.
Briony has a first class degree in political science, studied at UC Berkeley, and follows SAND with a broken hearted ‘keeness’. Her own values are life honouring. As a dual citizen UK-US, she has a deep historical awareness of the past 500-2000 years on both sides of the Atlantic, and the epic layers of colonial violence that we are yet to collectively acknowledge and transform, which therefore get perpetuated.
So we explore together: how can we with community, creativity, consciousness, a whole lot of singing, explore these themes together which are too great for any of us to hold alone?

May we re-establish healthy relations with our ancestors and cultural rhythms and practices of ancestral honouring; and for the sake of all life 7 generations forward, may we and the powers in our countries come into a collective life honouring paradigm where we live in balance with all of life. May it be so.
