Briony Greenhill & Asha McCarthy in Concert

Hawkwood College, Stroud, 26th November Doors @ 7, show 7.30 - 9.30ish…..

What world do I give you, what do I give to the world? What could it be instead?

Come and experience a collaborative performance between Briony Greenhill and Asha McCarthy. This concert will explore the question of “What is to bring a child into this country, culture, world at this time?”

Anthropocene Motherhood

We look forward now to 2110.

This new body of work from folk-soul improvisational artist Briony Greenhill has emerged from the journey into motherhood. Songs of love, conceiving, birth, land reform; how can we re-shape this design to put nature at the centre?

Forget the ‘Anthropocene’ - it masks too much. It’s time for a new era of Symbiocene. Let’s mother that into being!
— Briony Greenhill

Briony on piano and vocals will be joined by Asha McCarthy improvising on cello.  Asha will also play a half hour set in the middle of the concert. Cellist, singer, composer – Asha’s first album Epitah, also about motherhood, was described as “A shining beacon of an album” by Pennyblack Music and “Some of the most beguiling music you’ll hear this year” – Shire Folk.

Her new work is all about the Atlantic ocean.

I came home with a wide-opened heart
— Svieta
Greenhill’s jazzy, languid lyrics groove on the healing beauty of song, the planet and your own heart and soul, like Marvin Gaye crossed with a funky Earth mother…. This is sensual music that, if you want them, could give extra reasons to live.
— Mojo
Briony’s voice touches something so deep inside, something that’s hard to communicate as a parent of a young one in this world at this time. Her tone is enchanting, old and unique, and her lyrics speak poetry to the unspeakable – the unique experience of being awake and aware to the plight of the world, but trying to live in joy and action, purpose and care. She has something special to say. And the way she brings it to parenting makes it especially unique for us – who struggle to feel a sense of community and shared experience with others. For a short time, her art gave us that.
— Abel Pearson of Glasbren
As I watched and listened to Briony I found my soul and heart transfixed. When we sing and commune with Briony, we experience an artist coming to us straight from her soul, unfiltered, direct, and all who listen are transformed and feel ourselves and our connection to the world so much more deeply as this tremendous, once-in-a-decade artist brings us deep into her world, a world which is all of our world.
— Yari Mander
