Listen to Crossing the Ocean now

Briony Greenhill’s debut studio album fuses jazz/folk/soul: we could call this Pagan Gospel. An acoustic record with soulful lead vocals from improviser / producer Briony Greenhill, singers improvising lush harmonies, solid drum and double bass, nylon-string guitar, grand piano, and exquisite horn and string arrangements, laced with a touch of wooden flute.

Each song originally arrived whole as an improvisation.

Released 25th February 2022

“Sensual music that, if you want them, might give extra reasons to live.”
- Mojo Review by Glyn Brown

Live

The basic trio is Briony on keys and voice, with a drummer and upright bass, and a gaggle of singers. Extra budget makes room for strings and horns which rouse the vibe and add beauty and power. Repertoire is combined with live improv, with a lot of getting the audience singing, which really brings people together and lifts them up.

Briony is an internationally renowned teacher of Collaborative Vocal Improvisation in the lineage of her teachers Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon. Students call her “the Rolls Royce of voice teachers”, a “master” whose work is “life changing”. Briony could offer vocal improvisation workshops at the festival if desired. Here is a video about her teaching.

More About Briony

“I make and share primarily improvised music on themes of human depth, paradigm shift, the intimacy and bigger picture of our times: folk/soul/jazz, acoustic, multi-instrumental, join-in music with singers improvising lush and wild harmonies.”
