Inês Loubet is a London-based educator, singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter widely recognised for her versatility and innovation in the jazz, Brazilian, and folk music scenes. She has been a Professor of Jazz Studies a the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 2018, where she graduated with a BMus degree in Jazz Voice with distinction. Loubet is also a regular tutor at Leeds College of Music and Aldeburgh Young Musicians, where she teaches subjects ranging from songwriting to vocal improvisation, jazz ensemble, and music composition.
With over a decade of experience leading workshops across Europe and the UK, Loubet has developed a unique teaching style that integrates diverse musical traditions, focusing on rhythmic skills, jazz improvisation, Portuguese folk music, and musicianship. Her expertise extends to 1-1 tutoring, ensemble coaching, and workshops for various age groups and skill levels, including collaborations with the University of Leeds and the UK Vocal Improv Festival.
Inês is an active performer and collaborator, involved in several innovative musical projects. She has toured internationally, performed at prestigious venues such as The Union Chapel, O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, BBC Late Proms, and the Royal Albert Hall, and has appeared on BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM, and Worldwide FM, BBC Radio 6. Chops for Singers
This is a Level 3-4 series. Chops for Singers courses blend music theory study with vocal improvisation practice. Ines will teach intermediate - advanced aspects of rhythm, melody and harmony, and help us to sophisticate our improvisation with them. There’ll be a participant cabaret on the Wednesday night, and Briony and Ines will do an improvised concert at MIC (our venue) on the Monday night.

Mornings will follow a set schedule of:
10h00-10h30 physical warm-up & breath work (based on her technique inc. yoga & alexander technique)
10h30-11h00 vocal warm-up & rhythm games
There’ll be a short mid morning break daily.
11h00-12h00 musicianship exercises using body percussion and voice
12h00-13h00 exercises with two modes & two circle songs using those modes.

Afternoons will always end with free improv / guided vocal meditation for the final half hour or so. The rest of the afternoon will be given to:

Canone & hocketing techniques
Day 2
Solfege exercises & drone improvisation
Collective creative circle songs with words as starting points
Day 3
Poly rhythms, odd time signatures through circle songs
Day 4
Concept of layers of groove, and melodic and rhythmic interaction between parts in circle singing, encouraging students to lead.
In the musicianship sections of the day, we will explore different coordination techniques, claves, tempos & rhythms.
